What is Counselling?


Counselling is a positive way to look at and release the deeper issues and emotions that can get locked inside us. This held and unresolved energy can cause mental, physical and spiritual dis-ease – things like stress, anxiety, depression, lack of self esteem, questions about self and one's place in life, negative patterns of behaviour, addiction etc.

With a trained counsellor you gently unravel the places where pain has been experienced and emotions have become stuck. Using well researched techniques and the intuition and skill of your counsellor you safely explore these, thereby understanding the patterns of behaviour and adaptation that have come about as a result. With knowledge you can then decide whether or not these patterns of behaviour and beliefs about life and yourself, serve you to be the person you want to be in this present moment. This is the point at which we can then choose to create differently.

This process is about understanding and healing so that change can happen, energy can be unblocked and released and your whole being can come back into balance.

Counselling can also be about needing someone objective, supportive and non-judgemental to talk with about different issues in your life that you need to express, questions you may have, and situations you need clarity on.

In a counselling session you will only ever go at a pace that is right for you. The counsellor is the facilitator, the one with the tools and knowledge of useful techniques and ways of thinking about different issues, but you are always the driver. Good counselling is about facilitating you to find the answers that lie within your self.
